New Community - Spokane, Washington
New Community was started right around 1990 as a church to glorify God, reconcile people to God and to reconcile amongst people as well. It is our hope that as agents of God's redeeming work in the city of Spokane that we would live our lives as worship to God - that being our highest call.
We meet together on Sunday mornings at the Rendezvous Event Facility at 1003 E. Trent Ave. This is one block off of the corner of Trent and Hamilton. You will see it, there are flames painted above the entry way.
Park anywhere in the big parking lot in front of us, Northern Light, Riverview Thai, etc. We have a pretty big parking lot, but it can fill up fast.
We meet at 9 AM and 11 AM, Both services last and hour and a half. Dress is generally casual, although nobody is going to mock you if you wear a suit.
Although our church is quite large (compared to some in Spokane) we try to be as down to earth as possible. We do some experimenting with different art forms in worship, but we keep things real and not make anything too big of a production. Our worship time ranges from a full band of musicians to a guitar and a djembe. We are always mixing things up, getting out of the routine. We believe that Sunday mornings are our time to gather and proclaim what God has done in our lives, to share good news with each other, to learn about God's Word and to experience the Holy Spirit. It's not a time for us to come and be christians for two hours in our week, but a time to pour out what Christ has been doing in our lives. We take communion on a regular basis together, and we spend some time in prayer and reflection. Announcements, event promotions and other practical things take place during our services also. We serve free drip coffee too!
Worship isn’t about traditional vs. contemporary. It isn’t dependant on a good organ or definitive sound system. In fact, we believe worship exists apart from charismatic leaders, perfect pitch, or hip trends. Worship is a foundation of the Christian faith and finds expression in the corporate gathering of the household of faith and in the personal life of the believer. For the willing, it calls for participation of the soul and surrender of the will.
