Churchland Baptist Church is one of the most accessible Baptist churches in the Hampton Roads area. While a century ago our church was on the road from Portsmouth to Suffolk, we are now a church with a regional membership that comes from as far as 30 miles to worship and participate. Our membership comes from Norfolk, Great Bridge and Greenbriar (Chesapeake), Newport News, and Virginia Beach, as well as nearby communities like Western Branch (Chesapeake), Portsmouth, and Suffolk.
Churchland is one of those unique places where the best of Baptist life is still appreciated. The appreciation for this 'best' is evident in its adherence to good church music, a worshipful setting, an active missions support through the WMU, a history of solid preaching and a caring spirit for those within and without the fellowship."
Our music ministry is a major component of and contributor to the worship experience at Churchland Baptist.
The Chancel Choir sings in the Sunday morning worship service, including anthems and service music, as well as leading congregational singing. Also, they provide special music programs for Christmas Choral Worship, Christmas Lovefeast on Christmas Eve, the Maundy Thursday Service, Summer Choir Concert, and several other choral presentations during the year.
The Adult Handbell Choir rings three octaves of handbells that participate periodically in worship leadership.
The Youth / Young Adult Handbell Choir provides young people with their own unique musical experiences and many opportunities to participate in worship leadership. This handbell choir also rings four octaves of handbells.
The Children's Choir gives children Kindergarten through 3rd Grade their first chance to participate in worship through music. The children rehearse periodically throughout the year for special performances during worship.
As further enrichment of worship experiences at Churchland Baptist Church, the Concert Series is a special series of usually three to four concerts per year by a variety of performers/performing groups.
