First United Methodist Church

Welcome to the Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church!

We at First United Methodist Church in Burlington feel that quality music is essential to the worship experience. It is our goal to involve as many persons as possible in the music leadership of our church, and use music to make our worship come alive. You will find many varied styles of music, from Bach and the "classics" to Gospel, traditional, contemporary and Praise. Many ages are involved, from children through older adults. Our instruments include a three-manual Austin pipe organ with antiphonal, grand piano, handbells, choir chimes and a Praise Band, along with various other instruments from time to time.

Choir

Our Senior Choir consists of approximately 30 persons starting as young as the first year of High School. We rehearse on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room. All styles of music are shared in the Sunday morning worship services. We have taken "contemporary cantatas" on the road, sharing our love of God through music from the Albany, NY area to many local communities in Vermont. We also have three permanent ensembles created from within the choir that sing around the NY/VT area. If you love to sing Christian music, and want to be part of a fun, loving fellowship, we would love to have you join the choir!

Handbells

Our handbell choir, the Hallelujah Handbells, consist of over 4 octaves of Schulmerich bells, rung by 13 players. The bells play in church approximately once a month, including special celebrations such as Christmas and Easter. The handbell choir has performed in several locations across the state, including the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. A bell quartet (the Ha-Ha-Ha-Handbells), a duet and two soloists from the handbell choir also play in church during the year.

Praise Band

The Praise Band usually plays at the worship service on the third Sunday of each month. The band consists of two keyboards, bass, percussion, flute, guitars and vocalists.

Many styles of music are used, but all played in an uplifting manner. We use a lot of Praise music and Gospel, but tastefully have been known to include rock, boogie and even a bit of country - all in a worshipful manner!
The band has shared it's joyous Christian song in concerts, workshops and retreats, from New York to Maine.

Cherub Chimers

Made up of our church children, the Cherub Chimers play songs on the Choir Chimes during worship service.

Children's Choir
We know the children love singing out, sometimes really loud, in Faith Village so why not in church on Sunday morning? Marybeth Hibbert & Amy Perry lead the children in choir practice every Sunday morning during Faith Village closing time. The Children's Choir sings the second Sunday of the month and you can tell they love to share their voices for God.
