Our Downtown Music Ministry
First Methodist Houston has enjoyed a rich musical heritage for 160 years. The Sanctuary Choir and Chorale lead the Downtown congregation in two traditional worship services each week. The choir sings a variety of sacred music incorporating classics, traditional anthems, hymn arrangements and spirituals.

The Sanctuary Choir and Chorale present several concerts annually, including seasonal services during Advent, Christmas, and Lent. A highlight of the Advent season is the presentation of Handel's Messiah by the Houston Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. An adult handbell ensemble makes regular contributions to morning worship services and special events. The Pacesetter Players is a choir for senior adults that performs regularly for events in the life of the church and throughout the Greater Houston community.

Music on Main Street first Wednesday concerts
First Methodist Houston provides an excellent break from the traditional lunch hour with a concert series in the Downtown Sanctuary. Some concerts will feature the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ in the Downtown Sanctuary, featuring various organists who are either on the music staff at First Methodist or from the Houston metropolitan area. At other times we'll have artists such as Rob Landes, jazz pianist. Staff professional singers from our Sanctuary Choir are also frequently featured.

The Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, built in Boston, is one of the most significant in America. It is also one of the largest in the southwestern portion of the nation, and contains over 7,000 pipes - the longest of which is the 32 feet and the shortest being the size of a pencil. Major renovations have recently been completed on this magnificent treasure for not only First Methodist Church, but also for the entire Houston musical community.

For information on purchasing our choirs' CDs, audio of our sermons and information on the music and fine arts at our Westchase location, visit our web site.

As you browse our web site you will find programs, ministries and worship opportunities, at either campus, that we hope will be of interest to you.
