Sacred music and choral programs are essential aspects of the Anglican tradition, as the music supports the liturgy during the services of Morning Prayer and Holy Communion.
The Choir of Saint Andrew's has, as primary responsibilities, the Sunday services (two each Sunday from September through Memorial Day), Holy Days, and special services as designated by the Rector. The choirmaster/organist is responsible for all music selections and coordinates those selections during weekly liturgical meetings with the Rector.
The music program at Saint Andrew's seeks to encourage the youth of Saint Andrew's to learn Anglican musical traditions through the study of sacred music, fellowship, reading music, and performing during Sunday services. Youth choirs are formed to meet the age and ability levels of the parish's boys and girls. Of many joys provided by the music program, few match the marked delight produced by each performance of the Children's Choir.
St. Andrew's features a noon recital series called "Wednesday at Noon Recital Series". We feature local musicians (classical mostly) in a 30 minute informative recital beginning at 12:15 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month beginning with the month of September. These recitals are performed by professional musicians who donate their services to this series for an honorarium. The recitals are informal with the performer speaking to the audience about the pieces which will be performed. The program is only 30 minutes in length. And, they get to hear excellent music, ask questions and meet with the musician afterwards.
The church offers a boxed lunch in the Parish Hall for those who wish to stay for lunch and the cost is only $6. Many people from the downtown area enjoy their lunch prepared in a “to go” box and enjoy eating their lunch in beautiful Burnett Park across the street.
Also, each Wednesday the church opens at 11:15 a.m. for our Stained Glass Window Tour and we have docents available. St. Andrew’s windows are historic and are the most beautiful antique windows in this area. Each window depicts a specific story from the Bible and they are quite intricate in their artwork.
There are also a separate tour in the Parish House with over 65 windows available for viewing.Parking is free on Lamar in the church parking lot.
