Hibben United Methodist Church is located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina across the Cooper River from historic Charleston. Hibben's program of ministry strives to meet the spiritual, physical and social needs of the many different age levels which make up our congregation.
Our Worship Service follows a traditional liturgy of Word and Table. Typically, this begins with the Gathering and Welcome followed by a musical prelude, choral introit, responsive greeting, hymn and usually an opening collect (prayer). This is followed by the Proclamation of the Word – Scripture readings include the Psalter which is read responsively with a musical response, the affirmation of faith, offertory, anthem, readings from the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures (Old and New Testaments), the “Children’s Moment”, a hymn, Sermon, prayers, and the Service of Table.
Our hymns generally are accompanied by our 17 rank Schantz Pipe Organ and piano. All of our hymns are found in The United Methodist Hymnal, and are a mixture of old favorites and newer hymns, many of which no doubt will be “old favorites” for our children! On occasion, we also use the supplement, "The Faith We Sing". Frequently throughout the year we have additional music, such as flutes and brass horns, handbells, and the Children’s Choir. The Chancel Choir and Joyful Noise Choir offer anthems during our 10:30 am Service.
Music is a very important part of Hibben United Methodist Church's spiritual expression, and those who participate enjoy a very special experience.
The Chancel Choir provides a wide variety of types of choral music for the regular Sunday services as well as special music for services during Advent and Easter. The Chancel Choir sings each Sunday except for those Sunday's with special children's programs. Its membership is made up of persons with a wide variety of musical skills and experience
Joyful Noise
This is a volunteer group which performs contemporary Christian music for various services throughout the year.Youth Choir
The Youth Choir is available for 7th - 12th grade young people. They are part of the Sunday worship service on special occasions.Children's Choir
A children's ministry for children ages 4 years old through 6th grades. They sing during the year for church worship services and also perform 2 musicals a year, which are performed for the congregation during a worship service.Bell Choirs
The Carolina Bells is for children ages 8-12. They play on special occasions as part of the Sunday worship service.Instrumental Ensemble
This group of instrumentalist play for various services throughout the year.Special Music
