A Church for the City
First Reformed Church, a center city congregation of the United Church of Christ, gathered together in 1729 from German, Swiss and French settlers. Its members built the first church in the city in 1736. Since then, spiritual travelers joined together by their belief in God as Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer have been preparing for your arrival.
We tend to be theologically progressive, ecologically friendly, sociologically outgoing, financially conservative and find that our service to the city speaks above all “ologies” with acts of hospitality and hope.
Our Worship Service
Traditional in format-- spunky in spirit. Organ music, chime and vocal choirs, hymns, scripture readings, prayers, occasional dramas, and a relevant word from the pastor make every Sunday a celebration. It is our desire to conclude our service in an hour. We do our best to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit in every service so that we don’t rush through or unnecessarily prolong our worship experience.
