First Church has a long history of ministry and outreach to the Oklahoma City community. Since it’s beginning, the first Sunday after the Land Run of 1889, First Church has shared the love and gospel of Jesus Christ to countless people during some of our nation’s most challenging times. From the rugged pioneer days, through two World Wars, past the urban flight of the 1960s and even the infamous April 1995 bombing, First Church has resolved to be a relevant presence and witness in the heart of Oklahoma City.
The role of the Worship and Fine Arts Ministry of First Church is to provide worship experiences in which all people, regardless of age, cultural background, socio-economic status, or life experience, can restore that lost relationship, and in so doing, can experience the meaning, purpose and freedom He brings to each life. Through music, dance, pageantry, drama and the visual arts, we desire to draw those who are searching for the Love they are missing and to provide modes of expression to the Love we've found.
God is a God of variety and creativity. At First Church, we believe God is pleased with different styles of music, including classical, traditional and contemporary. We present a balance of the mentioned styles so that we can minister to each member of our church family. God is looking for sincerity of heart in our worship and will hold us accountable for presenting music in a way that leads the congregation into a meaningful encounter with Him.
