Our Mission Statement: |
"To Know Christ and to Make Him Known" |
Music is a very inspiring component of our religious experience. St. John’s is very fortunate to have two very talented and experienced music leaders: Wally McCarthy, Organist and Choir Master and Leslie Valentine, Director of Music Events and soloist
St. John's Organ
Pipe organs grace most of the great cathedrals and thousands of smaller Christian churches around the world. St. John’s is fortunate to have a fine organ. In 1928, the original pipe organ was replaced by a Casavant Opus 480 organ, designed, built, and installed by the world famous Casavant Freres Company in Hyacinthe, Quebec. This beautiful organ became in need of repair, and in 1994, the Peragallo Organ Company was contracted to rebuild the entire instrument using most of the original pipes. The rebuilt Casavant Opus 480 again became a wonderful instrument. It is now 42 ranks and known also as Peragallo Opus 578R. Since the completion of the rebuilding of the organ, St. John’s has enjoyed recitals by a number of very accomplished organists, as well as hosting workshops by the American Guild of Organists.
St. John's Choir
St. John’s Choir performs at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service and for most holiday services. The choir is blessed with talented voices. Leslie Valentine, Director of Musical Events, is an accomplished mezzo soprano, and the choir currently also has several other talented soloists. The highlights of the choir year includes special Christmas and Easter programs, as well as other special events. Musical instrument accompanyment at special events include trumpets, flutes, harps, etc. If your talent includes instruments, contact Wally. Rehearsals are on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. If you have an interest in participating, leave a message for Wally or Leslie at the church office (631-427-1752).
St. John's Handbell Choir
This year, St. John’s formed a handbell choir. Initial members went for training in Pennsylvania. The handbell choir has performed several programs. Anyone interested in joining should contact either Fr. Byrum or Leslie at the Church office. No prior experience is required.
If your talents include music, share them with others. Come join us!
