We, the Body of Christ at Our Lady of the Snows, are a community of disciples on a journey of faith. To live the gospel message as listeners, learners, and leaders, we will: Enrich our liturgies as the foundation for greater spirituality; nurture an awareness of Christ in one another—see and reach out to those who long for mercy, healing, and justice; and facilitate the sharing of our Catholic legacy in the diverse settings of our lives.
Music is essential to the Catholic Liturgy. It is important that music be a part of every Sunday and holy-day Mass. "A liturgical service takes on a nobler aspect when the rites are celebrated with singing, the sacred ministers take their parts in them, and the faithful actively participate." Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, art 113.
The important roles of music are:
• to encourage the faithful to participate
• to encourage those musically inclined to join the ministry
• to provide quality, liturgically appropriate music at every Sunday and holy-day liturgy, and for the sacraments, such as First Communion and Confirmation.Some Sunday liturgies vary in their musical flavor. The Sunday 5:00 p.m. Mass is more contemporary, with drums, electric bass and other instruments. At the 8:00 a.m. Mass, you're likely to hear an occasional traditional hymn accompanied by the organ. However, we do our best to maintain a consistency between all liturgies, using the same service music and responses, and usually the same hymns. After all, we are all a part of the same faith community!
