This is the church home of a diverse and friendly membership family from many West Michigan communities. We are proud to be recognized as the original Congregational church in Grand Rapids, often called “Park Church” because of the downtown park that provides our leafy green front yard. Founded in 1836 on the site of the present Morton House on Monroe Avenue, the first building in 1841 was on the southwest corner of Monroe and Division. The present building was built in 1868 and is designated a local, state and national historic landmark. The sanctuary’s magnificent Tiffany windows, added during the early 20th century as memorials to church members, enjoy a national reputation as fine examples of rare art glass.
Our church’s powerful pipe organ, first installed in 1930, it has been rebuilt three times to meet higher standards. Now with 80 ranks, including the unusual trompette en chamade on the rear wall, it is recognized as one of the finest in the Midwest. Tours of our historic church building are available every Sunday at the conclusion of the gloria sanctus service.
The Tiffany Collection of stained glass windows of Park Church remain as loving memorials to faithful members and former pastors of the church. Installed and prayerfully dedicated beginning in the year 1904 and not completed until 1938, they have served as a source of great beauty and spiritual inspiration, creating a worshipful setting for many generations of the Park Church family.
The sermons are now available on our website
in audio files to listen to over the internet.
