Our Choir
The First Church Choir is made up entirely of volunteer singers under the direction of Boston-area performer, early music scholar, teacher, and composer Peter Sykes. With a repertoire of sacred music ranging from Monteverdi to Charles Ives to American Sacred Harp hymnody to African folk songs, and including many original works by Composer-in-Residence Patricia Van Ness, Peter Sykes, and others, the Choir is dedicated to deepening and enriching Sunday morning worship through song. Special music is prepared at Christmas and Easter, often with guest instrumentalists.

Peter Sykes is frequently heard on the nationally syndicated radio program “Pipedreams.” Recent appearances include an all-Bach inaugural recital on a new organ built by Fritz Noack for the Langholtskirkja in Reykjavik, Iceland, Bach’s Goldberg Variations for the Renaissance and Baroque Society in Pittsburgh and many more. Peter Sykes has been noted by The American Organist Magazine "as a formidable organist who plays with artistry, subtlety and insight".
