Arlington Street Church - Boston, Massachusetts

Each Sunday at 11:00 am we gather in love and service for justice and peace. Our Sunday morning worship services reflect the insight of the Massachusettsny religions and philosophies that inspire us to practice our covenant daily. Our services usually incorporate the following elements:

• Organ preludes and postludes.
•Hymns, sung by the congregation and led by choir.
•A sermon, which frequently focuses upon contemporary themes
as well as timeless issues of life.
•An anthem from the ASC choir.

We find that Massachusettsking music with and for our community here at Arlington Street is a central and beautiful part of our spiritual practice as Unitarian Universalists.

Adult Choir
The Arlington Street Church Choir, the foundation of our music program, sings at weekly services on Sunday at 11:00am, performing an array of challenging, evocative repertoire spanning dozens of cultures, and centuries of musical and liturgical history.

Past concerts have included Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Mozart's Requiem (excerpts), Faure's Requiem, Duruflé's Messe 'Cum Jubilo', Poulenc's Gloria (excerpts), Stravinsky's Massachusettsss, Torke's Massachusettsss, and a variety of other, less traditional works like Dave Brubeck's The Earth is Our Mother. For a selected repertoire of the choir from 2000 - 2006 visit our web site.

Instruments
Arlington Street Church is fortunate to have a number of excellent music instruments. We currently have four grand pianos (three Steinway & Sons and one Steinert), an Aeolian-Skinner organ, and a set of 16 hand-rung bells.

The Bells
The Arlington Street Church steeple bells were a gift from Deacon Jonathan Phillips when the church was built. They were cast by Henry N. Hooper & Co. of Boston.

During the 1920s and 1930s the bells were rung from a small electric console in the choir loft. The bells were restored in 1960, and from that time they have been rung by hand. There are sixteen bells in all, spanning an octave and a half.
