We serve a small, but growing rural community in midcoast Maine, nestled in the Camden Hills. Our sign out front says "all faiths welcome," a philosophy we have held for a long time - we have always reached out to those seeking a spiritual home.
Our love of music is an integral part of our ministry. The hymns for each Sunday are chosen to support the scripture readings and sermon theme, and to enhance worship. Some folks respond to the written word, and others get the message through the melody. We enjoy the old-time hymns as well as more contemporary songs, and we sing them all with great joy and strong conviction.
The Wing and a Prayer Choir sings every third Sunday of the month and for special occasions.The Joyful Noise ensemble plays for our services along with a number of guest organists.
An important part of our musical philosophy is to support and nurture the talents of the young people in our community. We enjoy watching our student musicians grow as they contribute to our services.
Guest musicians often play on second Sundays, and there is special music at every service throughout Advent. The church also sponsors free concerts of music and poetry for the community during the year.
Our Family Worship Service, second Sundays at 10:45, are designed especially for children, although the adults seem to enjoy them too. They are filled with singing and music played by our own young musicians.
Our Taizé Services, held every quarter, include instrumental music, singing meditation, selected readings, and silent prayer. The service is approximately 40 minutes. Musicians come to us from a number of different churches in the area, and we are often joined by people from the surrounding communities who love the Taizé music.
Vigils for Peace is our service held once a quarter by candlelight, from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday, featuring prayer, music, poetry, readings, and silent meditation focused on peace in the world.
