St. Marks' Episcopal Church is the oldest religious body in the city of Shreveport. Founded during the Episcopate of the first Bishop of Louisiana, the Rt. Reverend Leonidas Polk.
At St. Mark's we strive to exemplify the faith community as a center of hospitality and to represent the best of this spirit of welcome and nurture.
Saint Mark's is a large, cruciform church in the 17th century Gothic style, with an interior height of 68 feet, and a total length of 200 feet. Inside and out the building is built of "natural" materials - stone, wood and brick - with an almost complete absence of sound absorbents. Here, we have cathedral dimensions for the ear as well as for the eye; or, to put it another way, the room sounds as big as it looks.
For over 100 years, vested choristers of all ages have shared in St. Mark’s ministry of song and service. The choir is a vital leader of ministry in this parish, not only offering its gift of choral music at Sunday services and major feasts of the church, leading the congregation in our Prayer Book worship, being an effective “small group ministry” in a large church family, but also being “evangelists in song” for our community, the diocese and the world!
There are two Aeolian-Skinner organs in the Cathedral. The main organ is located in the choir and the second organ is located in the west gallery.
On our web site you can access audio of our sermons, full liturgies or sermons only. You can also listen to music samples from our organ and choirs.
