Music at Trinity Episcopal Church

The Trinity Choir is made up of dedicated and talented parishioners who supply music for the principal service on Sunday mornings and various other special services and concerts. Recently the choir performed Carmina Burana, Verdi’s Requiem (together with excerpts from Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon), Mozart and Motown, Godspel and Jesus Christ Superstar. This year the choir hosted a regional conference of the Anglican Association of Musicians and performed a concert and Evensong with original music by Albinas Prizgintas. Several of the choir members play musical instruments and are equally capable as soloists. The choir has often included dance in their performances, such as tango and line dance.

The Children’s Choir is a group of boys and girls starting at age 4. The children performed at several services, including Palm Sunday and Pentecost. In addition to singing popular and lively songs, they play various drums and cymbals, synthesizers, piano, bells, organ and marimba.

Organ and Labyrinth is a exciting event takes place every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Begun May 2006, it focuses equally on music performed on our fine pipe organ, with occasional appearances of additional musicians. Our labyrinth is a meditative tool, whereby one is invited to walk on a traceable path that is placed on the floor of our sanctuary, while listening to music. The contemplative aspect of the experience is heightened by subdued lighting, much use of candles, and a variety of performed music, ranging from classical Baroque to vintage rock tunes. This program has elicited an enthusiastic letter to the Times Picayune and was recently the subject of a journalism project at Tulane University.

The Trinity Artist Series programs are held in the church and begin at 5:00 PM each Sunday. Each programs last one hour and all events are informal and free of charge
