I will praise the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God all my life long.

The Chancel Choir

Richmond's First Presbyterian Church has always had a tradition of musical excellence. It is as if it were "ordained" to be so. The Rev. C. Sumpter Logan, Sr. put it into words so eloquently. During worship on Sunday, May 31, 1981, Dr. Logan proclaimed, "Music in church can help prepare a congregation for a better understanding of what meaning heaven has!"

The Choir is always accepting new members, who would like to share their musical ability with our congregation and in service to the Lord. Joyce Wolf is the Director of Music and leads the Choir each Sunday. The Choir usually meets on Wednesday nights to practice and briefly before church services on Sunday.

Samaritan Singers

Around 1990, a group of local singers, known informally as the "hospital singers" and more formally as the Samaritan Singers, was begun by chancel choir member Hee-Young Shin. Every Sunday these folk go to Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center to sing for the patients on each floor. Mrs. Shin started the group because she did it as a high school girl growing up in South Korea. It has become a meaningful instrument of our music ministry for both singers and patients! The group is made up of singers from local area churches. It is not purely a Presbyterian group, although Amy Jett and John Gump, as well as Mrs. Shin, have been with the group since its founding.

The Memorial Bell Choir

The church has a complete 5-octave set of Schulmerich hand bells, all of which were given as memorials to individuals (hence the name, Memorial Bell Choir) and a 3-octave set of choir chimes. The Memorial Bell Choir began in 1968. The group plays
several times a year during church services. The Children's Chime Choir also plays during services. The Children's Chime Choir is lead by Sue Reeves. Their beautiful music enhances our worship service immensely.

The Children's Choir

Children's choirs have actively participated in the life of our church for many years. The children practice on Wednesdays and perform several time during the year for the worship service.
