The Disciples of Christ number over 700,000 making us the largest Christian denomination to be born on the rugged American soil. Our congregation was established in Henderson in 1844 and the first church built near downtown in 1854. In 1962 the congregation moved further South on Green Street (Hwy. 60) to 830 South Green Street and constructed a new church sanctuary and education unit. It is a modern structure outside, and is warm and welcoming inside. It features custom designed stained glass and etched windows, which tell the story of faith.

Many churches today have found that they need to offer a variety of worship styles to accommodate the culture and the changes in the context of worship. We offer an alternative worship experience for busy families each Saturday night at 5:35 pm. It includes a very casual atmosphere along with the contemporary praise style music. Each week we invite folks to warmly greet each other in Christ’s love, praise God with the praise band and singers, visually be stimulated by the a variety of elements of sights and sounds, share in a contemporary message, and of course be invited to partake of communion led by the elders and deacons of our church. After the service we have light refreshments and a time to informally get to know each other and visit. It is certainly a place where one can come and feel a warm welcome.

First Christian Church is also committed to its historic and traditional style of worship. Each Sunday the lively congregation gathers following the chiming of the hour to begin the liturgy of the morning. The service features a time for gathering, for children, music, prayer, communion, offering and scripture. The sermons bring a powerful faith message and end with a challenging question to lead the congregation into the coming week and helps them to discover and grow in their faith experience. The church has a long commitment to its music ministry so the adult choir and the music ministry as a whole is always an engaging experience for the listener. Our traditional worship also is a place where one can come and feel a warm welcome.Remember, at First Christian Church - “Come as you are…leave changed.”
