How We Worship

Visitors from Catholic, Lutheran, or high Methodist backgrounds will feel at home immediately. Others sometimes worry about whether they are doing the right thing at the right time. It’s not a problem. There are no rules, just some customs – and we don’t all follow the same ones. You’ll see different people doing different things. So just don’t worry about it. Do more or less what your neighbors are doing and you’ll be fine.

Diverse, Inclusive and Progressive. We are an interracial mix of different age groups, nationalities, lifestyles, economic situations, political and theological persuasions (liberal, moderate, and conservative.)

We are Anglican and use the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, but you don't have to be an Episcopalian to worship with us. All are welcome to receive communion. Each service has a different style. 8 a.m. is short, simple, quiet. 8:45 a.m. is traditional, low-church, with a choir. 11 a.m. is innovative and contemplative, and includes gospel service music, Taize chant, silence, bells, and incense. Our Sunday Evening service is a Celtic Communion, adapted from ancient Celtic ritual - the only Celtic Communion in Macon, Georgia.

Come as you are! St. Francis gladly welcomes and joyfully accepts all people. Whether you’re in jeans or a suit, we’ll be glad to see you.

If your in our area, stop by our Bookstore. We carry books that would be of interest to interfaith seekers. Our goal is to make available in Macon spiritual and religious books which otherwise would be completely unavailable or hard to find at a big chain bookstore.

We also carry a supply of music CDs, jewelry, and gift items. Even if one doesn’t buy anything, the Macon Ecumenical Bookstore is a pleasant place to browse, ruminate, or sit down for a chat with one of our volunteers.
