Saint John United Methodist Church - Augusta, Georgia

"Welcome to our parish. We are a fellowship that gathers in Christ’s name to nurture spiritual growth through the various stages and challenges of life. We are committed, through worship, discipleship, and service to proclaiming the message of the Gospel – the good news of Jesus Christ! Ours is a church that is rich in tradition, but we are ever working to keep our ministry in the now. Our mission, as United Methodists, is to win disciples to Jesus Christ. There are no unimportant people here. There are none who are forgotten. We seek to be with you in your sadness and your joy."

Through the ministry of music, we hope to help people of all ages encounter, know, and enjoy God more deeply.

The Saint John Choir
The St. John Choir is made up of 40-50 volunteers and professionals from all walks of life. The choir sings for 11am services eleven months of the year. Their anthems and hymns for worship are selected to illuminate the lectionary-appointed scripture for the day. Concerts by the St. John Choir in recent years have included such major works as Bach's St. John Passion, Haydn's Creation, and the Requiems of Brahms, Faure, and Durufle. The choir has performed under the direction of many prominent conductors, including John Rutter, Joseph Flummerfelt, Ann Jones, Andre Thomas, Henry Leck, Eric Nelson and Bingham Vick. In the summer of 2001 they enjoyed a concert tour to Scotland and Northern England, and in 1997 they served as choir in residence at Westminster Abbey, along with a sister choir from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Augusta. The choir's productions of Christmas 1798 are popular in the Augusta community. Two professionally produced recordings feature the choir's work.

The Saint John Youth Choir and Bell Choir
The St. John Youth Choir is trained in choral singing and the art of handbell ringing, dividing their rehearsal time between the two disciplines. Their repertoire ranges from Vivaldi and Mozart to gospel and African songs. They sing and ring for worship at St. John 4-6 times per year. They also perform 2-4 times ""off-campus"" in the Augusta community.

The Saint John Junior Choir
The St. John Junior Choir studies choral singing in the bel canto tradition, singing for worship at St. John 3-6 times per year.

The Saint John Wesley Choir
The St. John Wesley Choir welcomes all young children who enjoy music and movement. Choristers learn to develop a beautiful singing voice, matching pitch and developing fundamental musical skills. Our non-performance-based curriculum, "God's Children Sing," offers an early childhood music and movement program designed to "awaken and develop the children's inborn joy and talent for making music centered within their spiritual community.
