Atlanta First United Methodist Church - Atlanta, Georgia

Our primary worship service is held on Sunday mornings at 11:00 am. Following the traditional United Methodist format, we have hymn singing, scripture reading and an uplifting message provided by one of our pastors. The service features music played on our newly built organ, singing by our chancel choir and frequently a solo performer during the offertory. Every service begins with the chiming of the hour by our historic bell. (Visitors and members are welcome to volunteer to help ring the bell!)

For those looking for a more contemporary and casual worship experience, look no further than our Sunday night service. Featuring live performances by our in house band and sermons with a message more in tune with the younger generation, it fills a niche for those who aren't into the traditional worship service format.

During the summer, we will be featuring a scaled back "unplugged" version of the band, but the worship isn't diminished one bit! Come join us in this spiritually uplifting time!

For those who work or live downtown, our Thursday noon service and luncheon offers a chance to connect with God and your fellow Christians during your lunch hour. The worship service is held in the sanctuary, is half an hour long and is immediately followed by lunch in the fellowship hall.

One of the great gifts of God to human beings is the ability to produce music. I believe that music was given to us as a means to glorify God. We follow the example in Scripture of using sacred music in our worship services.

There are musical elements used in our services that have come forward from the first Christian church. Besides the creativity, which produces new sacred music, we have this wealth of music from history from which to draw.

The choral call to worship is sometimes contemplative and at other times powerful and joyous. It lifts our hearts to the gates of heaven. Hymns and gospel songs are for us to corporately worship God through His great gift of music. The anthem and offertory are offerings of worship, which are intended to additionally prepare your hearts to hear the spoken word. The choral amen or benediction is the musical end to the closing prayer.

Atlanta First's new organ was built by the A. E. Schlueter Pipe Organ Company of Lithonia, Georgia. The organ façade fills the arch over the chancel, where once it was open above the pipes of the old organ. The organ, containing 155 ranks (61 pipes per rank), is controlled by a five manual console. There are three divisions in the gallery and six division in the main organ. A Trompette en Chamade (horizontal brass trumpets) is displayed under the stained glass window in the rear of the gallery. The organ includes pipes from the previous Roosevelt and Reuter organs with the addition of new pipes. The Antiphonal organ also includes pipes from the 1926 E. M. Skinner organ, formerly in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atlanta, Georgia. These pipes are from Don Land’s collection.

Don Land, Organist and Director of Music, designed the initial specification for the new organ. The final specifications are a result of collaboration with Tom Alderman, Organist at Roswell United Methodist Church, and Arthur Schleueter, III, Vice-President of A. E. Schlueter Pipe Organ Company.

Videos of our worship services is available on our website along with The "Music Program Videos" page featuring videos of performances by both guest musicians and our in-house choir and organ. The "Photographs" pages has images from events happening at Atlanta First. The "Televised Services" page gives information on how to view our worship services on television in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
