St. John’s has a long history of excellent musical leadership. The foundation of our music comes from both the great congregational hymnody of the church and the wide body of music for choirs and instruments. The centuries old Anglican liturgical traditions have been strengthened and enhanced by the choir as well as by the 2002 renovation of the nave, which holds a new organ and choir loft. The vastly improved and enhanced acoustics of the church placed renewed emphasis on the continuing strengths of the music of our liturgies.

The choral program of St. John’s is modeled upon the Royal
School of Church Music with choir training for singers of all
ages.We have 5 choirs—approximately 80 children and
adults—that participate weekly in rehearsals and services.



Beginning Choir
Boys & Girls in 1st – 2nd grade
Younger boys and girls have the opportunity to learn the basics about worship and music and occasionally participate in the 9:00 a.m. Sunday service.

Boy Choir
Boys in 3rd – 8th grade/unchanged voices
The Boy Choir joins with the Junior Girl Choir, Senior Girl Choir, and Adult Choir on Sunday mornings to lead worship at the 9:00 a.m. service.

Junior Girl Choir
Girls in 3rd – 5th grade
The Junior Girl Choir joins with the Senior Girl Choir, Boy Choir, and Adult Choir on Sunday mornings to lead worship at the 9:00 a.m. service.

Senior Girl Choir
Girls in 6th – 12th grade
The Senior Girl Choir joins with the Junior Girl Choir, Boy Choir, and Adult Choir on Sunday mornings to lead worship at the 9:00 a.m. service.

Adult Choir
The Adult Choir leads worship on Sunday mornings at the 9:00 a.m. and/or 11:15 a.m. services and other special services such as Choral Evensong, Advent Lessons & Carols, Worship around the Park, and Holy Week.

Organs
The organs include the new C. B. Fisk, Opus 127 (2005) in
the church and the Hill and Davison (1837-1838) English
chamber organ in the chapel.
