We are an historic downtown church, founded on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River in 1872. The original church was a log cabin donated by Major James Evans.

A Methodist circuit rider named, Rev. William C. Jordan, was the first Pastor to serve the founding four families in Ft. Myers.On Dec. 6, 1953 Reverend James Rooks delivered the first sermon in our current sanctuary. It was a packed house and many were turned away. Membership at that time was almost 1500 strong.

Our Music Ministry Today
The music ministry of First United Methodist Church praises God whenever the song we sing proclaims God’s grace to all people. God is praised when his children respond with a joyful new song to His redeeming sacrifice. God is praised when worshipers are inspired by our use of His gift of music in His house.

Many changes have taken place in our city and our church since we first opened our doors, but one thing has not changed.
