~ MUSIC ~

Music Program

Making a "joyful noise unto the Lord" is a vital part of the worship service at First Parish Church and there are choirs for all ages. Our worship life is greatly enriched by the finest state-of-the-art combination pipe/digital organ in the area. Capable of producing a rich variety of sounds over a wide dynamic range, the organ serves as a centerpiece of our musical ministry.

Music Committee

The nine member Music Committee is charged with seeing that the music program runs smoothly, including preparation and supervision of the music budget, maintaining the instruments and music, care of robes, etc. Receptions for special music presentations, such as Handel’s "Messiah" (presented every other year on the even numbered years), are also part of the committee’s work.

Senior Choir

Fifty members sing sacred, classical and contemporary music September through June. Their music draws many people to our church. They praise God and have a good time doing it. They care for each other and offer this invitation to you to become the next new member of this unique group. The choir rehearses from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Sunday evenings in Fellowship Hall. For information, please e-mail the Senior Choir.

Joy Singers

Children in grades one through three learn to sing their faith. The Joy Singers rehearse Monday evenings from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Each rehearsal is followed by a brief snack time. The choir sings for morning worship once each month.

Choristers

A great place for youth in grades four and up to keep singing and growing. Even high school age youth enjoy this group. The choir rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00-7:30 p.m.

Gloriae Dei

A select ensemble of young women dedicated to refining their considerable musical talents and sharing them to "the Glory of God".

First Parish Ringers

We offer a unique and wonderful opportunity to serve God and the church by ringing in our handbell choir. We ring approximately once a month in the church service as well as for other functions such as weddings, nursing homes and programs in the community. It is a wonderful opportunity to serve through music.
We rehearse Sunday evenings from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and welcome returning and new ringers. For information, please e-mail the Bell Choir.

Choir Chimes

A group of young people (5th through 7th grade) who provide music for the church service approximately once a month. Choir Chimes is a wonderful opportunity for beginning "ringers". You do not need to read music to be in Choir Chimes and it is a wonderful opportunity to learn beginning ringing. For more information, please e-mail the Bell Choir.

Rock of Ages Band

A music group directed by Lisa Marshall that plays primarily on Wednesday evenings during the school year for the Logos program. Our music is made up of praise songs/folk songs familiar to all, "anthem" tunes from popular Christian and non-christian bands as well as some familiar hymns. Instrumentation includes vocals, drums, guitar, bass guitar and piano. For more information please e-mail Rock of Ages.

Belknap Concert Series

The concert series is a musical outreach to our church and the wider community and is an important part of our mission.

More Music

Throughout the year, we are fortunate to enjoy the music ministry of a wide variety of solos, duets, and ensembles. An extremely eclectic musical program enriches the worship life of First Parish.
