Music at First Church
From the joyous chaos of children's voices on Church School Recognition Sunday to the somber sounds of a Requiem on Good Friday, music is a constant part of the life of First Church, speaking in a way words cannot speak of our thanksgiving and praise to the God who has so richly blessed us. Organ, handbells, brass instruments and drums enhance our song.
The Chancel Choir is a group of volunteer singers who provide music for Sunday worship throughout the year.
The Palmer Handbells play for worship on the four Sundays of Advent and about once a month throughout the season.
The Children's Choir (grades 3 to 6) sing for worship once or twice a month.
The Youth Choir is for sixth graders through seniors in high school. sings frequently throughout the season.
THE CHERUB CHOIR is for children in kindergarten through second grade.
Every four years since the late 60s First Church has presented Benjamin Britten’s chancel opera NOYE’S FLUDDE.
Just before Christmas every year First Church presents Part I of Handel’s Messiah, the Christmas portion, with the Hallelujah chorus. A community chorus of some one hundred singers rehearses for two weeks, and is joined by a twenty-piece chamber orchestra and professional soloists for the performances.
Sunday Afternoons Live is a series of chamber music, vocal, piano & jazz concerts held in the Auditorium during the months of January and February - admission is free.
