Several years ago an article in Greenwich Historical Magazine called Stanwich Church “A Light in the Back Country”. The article celebrated the enduring light of Christian ministry in northern Greenwich since 1731 when 13 families founded Stanwich Church. Over the years our church has grown, and our ministries have extended beyond Greenwich to the surrounding area and throughout the world, but our goals are the same today as they were 275 years ago: to worship God and to share His love with others.
We would be honored to welcome you to one of our worship services. Traditional Sunday morning worship is at 9:30 AM and 11:15 AM, and our Evensong service is at 5:30 PM on Sunday evenings. Our building is wheelchair accessible, and listening devices are available for the hearing impaired.
Our Sunday Morning Services
Our morning worship services feature organ music and a choir. At 9:30 AM, children 3 years and older stay with their families in the sanctuary for the first few minutes of the service, singing a hymn and praise song, and reading the unison prayers together. Then the children are invited to the front of the church to listen to a brief junior sermon, after which they are led out to Sunday School. The remainder of the worship service includes readings from the Bible, silent and pastor-led prayers, sermon, and closing hymn and benediction.
Evensong Service - This innovative worship service on Sunday evenings at 5:30 PM features modern music played by the Evensong band. Though initially conceived for younger worshippers, Evensong now attracts people of all ages who are seeking an alternative to traditional worship services.
Of course the best way to hear a Stanwich sermon is in person during one of our worship services. However, for people who aren’t able to attend, or for those who want to share an inspiring message with a friend, our sermons are recorded every week. They can be borrowed from our bookstore lending library, purchased individually or as a subscription.
