First Church has a long tradition of offering a strong music program which supports the life and the work of the church. Music has many functions in the lives of the people of God. Important among them is the opportunity to share faith experiences through the poetry of hymns and psalms.

This important work is accomplished by several musical ensembles:

Sanctuary Choir which provides musical leadership from September - June at 10 am worship. Music of all style periods from early chant to contemporary classical and 'those in the 'folk' idiom are offered throughout the year. The Sanctuary choir is supported by professional adult singers.

The Bell Choir completes the First Church music program. Solo bell repertoire and literature which support the choir and congregation are offered by the Bell Choir throughout the year.

First Church is blessed with an exceptional Hooks and Hastings organ rebuilt by Aeolian Skinner in 1959 which serves as the music ministry. This is a treasure to the congregation. In addition, a Steinway grand piano is often used in worship.

We are a religious community undergoing an awakening. Though we are proud of our 300 year tradition of Christian fellowship in the Congregational tradition, we are looking ahead as we approach the 21st Century.
