It is our mission to celebrate the living God through worship, where compelling, lectionary-based preaching is the norm, where creative collaboration between clergy and laity in worship planning and leadership is expected and where the congregation actively participates in Reformed liturgy inspired by music, the arts and liturgical seasons.
Worship is central to Old First's life in Christian community; everything we are and do springs from and
informs our life together as a worshiping community.
Compelling, lectionary-based sermons, an inspiring
music ministry, lay liturgical leadership and participation of children and young adults are central to our
worship experience.
Music is a vital and lively element of worship at Old First. In music-making, people at Old First participate in making a worthy offering of praise to God. The music experienced in worship can lift our hearts in celebration of God and draw us into community. In our worship from week to week we celebrate the rich heritage of classical Western art music as an important spiritual resource. At the same time, we seek to incorporate rhythms, sounds, and songs from all over the globe and across the Christian era.
Each Sunday Worship Service features a full program of organ music and of course, the Old First Choir.
Our Jazz Vespers is a worship service for and by musicians, featuring many local and nationally known jazz musicians. Of course, the public is invited as well! Jazz Vespers service occurs one Sunday a month.
An archive of our sermons in audio are available on our web site. We hope you will visit us soon, either on-line or in person.
