Historic Westminster Presbyterian Church, strategically located across from California’s Capitol, seeks to be a joyous, vibrant, spiritual community and a voice for justice and mercy.
Westminster Presbyterian Church is a community of faith, accepting the love and grace of God, as shown through the life and teachings of the Jesus of history and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
In worship, we celebrate God’s love. For spiritual development, we participate in study, prayer, meditation and fellowship, inviting everyone to learn with us the meaning of Jesus’ message of compassion, hope and reconciliation. We accept all people as members and leaders solely on the basis of their affirmation of faith in Jesus Christ.
Westminster's Romanesque-Byzantine building (modeled after Istanbul's famous Hagia Sophia and listed on the National Register of Historic Places) is home to a number of fine musical keyboards: a 50-rank Möller pipe organ, a portative pipe organ, a harpsichord, two grand pianos (Steinway "B" and Yamaha 7'), and an ornate 1904 two-manual, full pedal reed (electrified-pump) organ (chapel). The classical sanctuary space is graced with ideal acoustics and is a favorite venue for concerts, recitals, Music At Noon, and lectures.
Some of the things you will see if you visit us:
*Music at Noon: free concerts, Wednesdays.
*Cathedral Organist presents grand pipe organ concert.
*Women's Trio: popular music of the 30's-50's, and more!
