Mission Statement

Our mission is to praise God, to work for God's kingdom, and to advance the Congregational Christian way of life through worship, education and involvement.

First Church has been blessed with a strong ministry in music throughout its history. The ministry of music provides music for worship services and sponsors concerts throughout the year. The Cathedral Choir sings for the 11AM Sunday service of worship September through June, as well as special services and concerts.

 

Great Organs of First Church

Our Great Organs are collectively one of the largest musical instruments ever built, and one of the largest and most complete organs in any church in the world. Tthe chancel organ was built for the sanctuary of the present building by Ernest M. Skinner, one of the foremost organ builders of his day. In 1969 a new and larger instrument was built in the rear gallery by the Schlicker Organ Company, who also constructed an Italian-style continuo organ located above the south choir. All the organs can be played from either or both of the two consoles, one in the chancel, the other in the rear gallery.
