Mission: "We want to take traditional
Gospel music to a higher level than it’s ever been, and carry the
Gospel message to places where it’s either been lost, or perhaps
never even been heard before. After waiting so long for this moment,
in some ways it feels like a new beginning, but actually it’s just
a big step forward on the same journey we’ve been on for all of
our lives.” - Renée Williams
Matthew 17:20 - I tell you the truth, if
you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain,
' Move from here to there' and it will move.' Nothing will be impossible
for you. (NIV)
POWER IN THE HOUSE - "It stands as a
statement of faith, and the realization of hopes and dreams that
simply refused to die."
POWER IN THE HOUSE is a recording done at
a series of 8 well-received concerts performed in Lucerne, Switzerland,
a place far away from Pennsylvania, but the home of people wanting
to hear the Gospel in such a delightful way.
"We really didn't know what to expect
on our first night in Switzerland when we recorded this album"
says Renee Williams. "But traditional Gospel music just connects
with people. It moves them, whether they know it's the power of
the Holy Spirit or not, they can feel it, and it crosses the lines
of color, and country, and even language."
About the Williams Sisters & Family -
Rev. James and Terry Williams, Juliet, Renee, Vanessa, Janice, Patricia
+ James Jr.!
The Williams Sisters' traditional, evangelistic
Gospel music springs from their early experiences as being the children
of Rev. James and Terry Williams, people who were not only musically
gifted themselves but dedicated to serving Jesus Christ. Being effective
evangelists, the Williams traveled along the East Coast spreading
the Gospel in word and music, in between making a living in several
vocations at their home base in South Carolina, when the five daughters
and one son, James Jr. were still small.
The Williams children accompanied their parents
on these evangelical crusades, and as they all had musical gifts,
became part of a family musical group, The Crusaders for Christ.
Rev. James and Terry Williams were the role models for their children,
teaching them by their own faith walk that "Only what you do
for Christ will last."
In 1978, The Williams family moved back to
their home town of Philadelphia, PA. The five daughters and one
son, James Jr. began their own musical Gospel ministry. Young James
learned the bass guitar, and Juliette became the group's drummer.
Throughout the '80's, using a varying roster of talented musicians
to fill in as musical accompaniment for the core group, this "young
act" developed a loyal following in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania,
New Jersey and Delaware, as well as North and South Carolina.
The late '80's brought some new, promising
developments for the Williams family. In 1987, The Williams siblings
and their mother, Terry, released their first independent album.
In 1988, Rev. James Williams was formally
called to the ministry and became the pastor of Philadelphia's Temple
of Christ.
Throughout the '90's The Williams Sisters
continued to "run the race" that the Lord had put them
in, for His gospel and His glory, through both their successes and
their trying times.
In 1992, they released another independent
album, much to the delight of their fans in Philadelphia. In 1996,
on a tiny independent label, they released an album, LIVE ON THE
EAST COAST: LET EVERY EAR HEAR, a collection of original, traditional,
classic Gospel songs done in the Williams musical style, which got
them noticed by the mainstream music industry, when the album made
it to the top ten in the Gospel music world.
The single from that album, JESUS WILL PICK
YOU UP was a huge hit, giving them national exposure, and became
their signature song, a calling card which introduced them to audiences
at their concerts. Two years of touring
and concerts resulted from this album, as they rode the wave of
success, giving them many opportunities to spread the Gospel through
their music.
Trying times to build their character and
faith in the Lord appeared in the form of "business complications".
Although these complications prevented them from recording another
album for 7 years, The Williams Sisters continued to vigorously
step out in faith, serving Jesus Christ through their music ministry,
living the truth that their parents instilled in them so long ago;
"Only what you do for Christ will last." They continued
touring and performing in concerts, still running the race they
were called to by the Lord, so long ago.
Five years into this trying period of time,
The Williams Sisters shared the stage at a local Philadelphia concert
with the well-known Gospel group, The Mighty Clouds of Joy. Producer
/ promoter Tony Beck was in the audience that evening, and approached
them about doing an album on his Messiah Records.
This association resulted in the 8 night
concert series in Lucerne, Switzerland, which led to this new album,
POWER IN THE HOUSE, their first album in seven years.
About the Williams Sisters' Gospel Music...
Billboard Magazine says The Williams Sisters'
POWER IN THE HOUSE "is a dazzling display of everything that is
timeless in Gospel's roots and traditions...Consider this a flawless
return to form by an act that's been missing in action for too long."
Amen! What a foot-stomping, hand clapping,
roof-raising, spirit-lifting, totally inspiring collection of evangelical
to the wall Gospel compositions which do a terrific job of sharing
the Gospel of Jesus with the listener, and explore how much we need
Jesus and what it means to follow Him, celebrating the hope we have
in Him. Whether it is the explosive praise and victory songs or
the easy beat ballads or solemn prayer hymns, these Holy Spirit
inspired songs fully express the Gospel message of what a Savior
we have in Jesus Christ, who gives us eternal life and is a true,
loving, dependable faithful friend, a source of comfort and strength
in whatever circumstance we are going through. The "Power"
in the house refers to the Holy Spirit, who indwells and enables
us in whatever we are called to do or face in following Jesus, and
is very much present in the performances, both vocals and instrumentals,
heard on this album.
POWER IN THE HOUSE is an absolute must for
anyone's Christian music collection, whether you are brand new to
Gospel music or long time enthusiast of the genre. Why? Because,
POWER IN THE HOUSE is such a terrific example of Gospel music, as
it rises to the standards of the William Sisters mission statement,
listed above: "to take traditional Gospel music to a higher
level than it’s ever been."
It will greatly bless the listener as it
did this reviewer.
This collection of songs is Gospel music
at its very best, displaying all the great qualities of the Gospel
music genre that set it apart from all the other genres; Emotional
involvement of the performers, heart-felt, energetic, poignant,
full of the Spirit strong vocals, memorable melodies and a talented
accompaniment band. Plus, these songs have the best BRIDGE and VAMP
performance sections I've heard since I began reviewing Gospel music
three years ago. The Bridge and VAMP sections of each song are the
exclamation point, the lightening bolt of the message of the song,
so beautifully showcased in the performers' rendition of the composition
at hand.

* * * ++ NEVER LOST THE FIGHT - Words and
Music by Jay Lowe, Solo & Duet vocals by Renee & Juliet
Williams, Horn Arrangement by Bill Jolly
Favorite Song of this reviewer. It begins
this CD with an eruption of joy and Spirit and sound, a song which
jubilantly expresses a lively explanation of Jesus' death and resurrection,
and what that means to us. Song would be great for an Easter celebration,
as well as a reminder for the whole year of what a Savior we have
in Jesus!
A rousing, emotional victory in Christ song
with a lot of kick, energy and drive! The Spirit roars through this
performance easily infecting, inspiring the listener. Will definitely
inspire the listener to dance around the room in joy and thankfulness.
It is impossible to feel cranky after listening to this song, as
it changes negative attitudes.
Starts off with a vigorous beat, followed
by full sound, courtesy of the cooking accompaniment, which pumps
up the piece with horns, a very hot bass guitar and sizzling piano,
with nice organ embellishments. Melody bolstered with precise, intricate
rhythmic moving counter melodies for all instruments, not to mention
the syncopation, which is difficult to pull off but obviously not
for this band!
Features a powerful BRIDGE and VAMP, which
adds the icing on the top of a full-blown joyous victory song, a
celebration of what Jesus did for us. Great use of dynamics; vocals
and accompaniment start off softly in the bridge, though the band
still cooks away with gusto. The sound builds in volume, in emotion
and intensity and then blooms in the VAMP. WOW! It gives the listener
chills!
Features A spirited, sister duet, back up
strongly by the family ensemble, which brings to life the joy and
amazement of Easter Morning.

* * * + + POWER IN THE HOUSE - Words &
Music by Renee Williams, Vocals by Renee & Juliet Williams,
Horn Arrangement by Bill Jolly & Tony Beck
Title song: a strong second favorite of this
reviewer.
The gospel story continues with the good
news that not only did the disciples receive the Holy Ghost at Pentecost,
but that we also have the Holy Spirit to help us.
Lead vocals by Renee and Juliet Williams,
tell the continuation of the victory Gospel story. Lyrics tell the
story of the first Pentecost, the coming of the indwelling Holy
Spirit in this gloriously snappy upbeat ballad / worship song, as
lively as the song reviewed above, with movin,' spirited musical
accompaniment, which so nicely offers great counter melody and support
for the main melody. Love the cooking guitars, with their funky
rhythm and 8th & 16 note counter melodies and piano parts, with
horn and organ accents, which keep the momentum of this composition
pumping along with energy and spirit.

Now on the day of Pentecost, when
it was fully Come, they were all in one place, they were all with
one accord. And sound came down from Heaven, as rushing mighty wind,
and it filled the whole house, the Spirit came on in. Now you don't

Ghost, that's what we're singing about. We need.
Chorus1: Power in the house, We
need Power in the house, Nothing but Power in the house, Holy Ghost
Power, in the house!
Now when all this took place, they
began to Speak with tongues.Tongues like fire that filled everyone!
But if you look at churches today, so many have gone a stray, not
much singing, not much shouting, they don't even want to pray. But
you don't have to wonder, what's going on inside, the devil just
stepped right in, and took them all for a ride. We need....
Chorus 2: Power in the house, We
need Power in the house, Nothing but Power in the house, Santified
Power in the house!
Now the Lord told his people, come
on in the Upper room, the Apostles were there, the disciples were
there, and the mother of Jesus too, and if they had to be endowed,
with power from on high, what about you? what about me? We cannot,
get by! But listen; You don't have to wonder, what's being said
to you. Clap your hands and stomp your feet and let the Power come
on through...We need. Chorus 2
We need Power! Power! Come on in!
Bridge: I said Come on in (if you
are a liar), Come on in (if you are a back biter) Come on in (turn around and walk on in here) Come on in (if you are a drug

* * * RUN THIS RACE - Words & Music by
Juliet Williams, Solo Vocals by Juliet Williams, String & Horn
arrangement by Bill Jolly.
Beautifully composed with the old time Gospel
style worship hymn feeling; calm, steady tempo with a plaintive
melody, full gospel harmony in the chorus, lead vocals sung with
great feeling by Juliet. Accompaniment offers strong support for
the melody, and some simple counter melody as well. VAMP is great!
Traditional Gospel shines especially in the VAMP, with interesting
harmonies.

Related Scriptures (Rev. 21: 1-4, 6, 11,18-19, 22-26, John 14:2-3,

Song starts off with a catchy, easy ro clap
to beat, meaningful verses, easy to sing melody, and a easy to remember
chorus. The build up of the driving Gospel spirit and fervor make
this song a crowd pleaser, an effective praise and gospel message
composition for congregations / groups of any size.
Verses describe the new Jerusalem, which
will come down from heaven at the second coming, but is in heaven
now. Verses describe the gold streets, the glorious walls, and most
wonderful of all, Jesus, the light of the city. The way there is
belief in Jesus Christ, becoming part of Him.
Especially memorable is the Bridge and VAMP,
where the beat goes up a notch, composition builds with intensity
and emotion, in both the vocals and the fired up band which takes
off, fully launching in the VAMP, especially the piano and guitar!!
Another WOW moment!

* * * ++ PERILOUS TIMES - Words & Music
by Renee Williams, Solo Vocals by Renee Williams, String & Horn
Arrangement by Bill Jolly.
Third favorite song of this reviewer. A song
that would give comfort to anyone who has suffered a heart-breaking
tragedy; a senseless loss of a loved one. Written in a minor key,
a sorrowful, serious ballad / prayer hymn, mourning all the heart-breaking
pain in our world, fully expressing the sorrow of senseless loss
from gang violence and death in schools, the dire consequences of
using drugs, but proclaims the antidote - Jesus Christ, who heals
broken hearts and transforms people's
lives. It breaks your heart, but gives you hope at the same time.
Vocals are soulful, poignant and heart-felt,
and are the star feature of the composition, showing another side
of the vocal talent of Renee and the other William Sisters. Supported
nicely by strings and horns, background guitar and piano, great
use of dynamics. Song starts off with soft broken chords, beginning
the sad mood of the composition.
Another lovely VAMP: The punchline in the
VAMP declares that we are living in those perilous times and are
close to the second coming of Christ. - We need Jesus now or face
being lost. (Quotes from scripture)

An easy tempo contemporary feeling Gospel
ballad, with R& B, jazz influences, supported by piano, a lovely
sax accompaniment joins the instrumental ensemble, who again offer
chordal support for the main melody, and some nice counter melodies
as well. Another great VAMP section, which brings the main points
of the lyrics roaringly to life.

about to lose your soul.
Chorus: Please be careful everything
you say and do we even have to walk a certain way representing Christ
today.
Being a child of God, your way may
seem so hard, but if you are born again you'll struggle Till the
end. What are we gonna do preachers & Sunday school teachers,
stop, stop, stop, looking for an offering pan and be concerned about
the souls of men.
Chorus:Please be careful everything
you say and do we even have to walk a certain way representing Christ
today.

* * * + + JESUS WILL PICK YOU UP - Words
and Music by Jay Lowe, Solo & Duet vocals by Renee & Juliet
Williams, Horn arrangement by Bill Jolly and Tony Beck
It is no wonder that this song was / is a
monster hit, which became their signature song, as they all shine
through as they tell the Gospel through music the Lord gave them
and their band as well. Another WOW moment song for this reviewer!
Definitely a very encouraging, electrifying
composition which can be described as vigorous Gospel music with
a swing! Another outstanding, foot-stomping 2 beat, hand-clapping,
exciting Gospel praise evangelical ballad that the Williams Sisters
do so well! Makes a great, audience
participation song, easy to clap to, easy to remember chorus, strong
clear message sung with enthusiasm, skill, all which is supported
by a swinging band, lively piano, strong horns, cooking guitars,
all held together by a great drummer, who also shines in a solo
in the musical interlude in VAMP 2.
The VAMP 2 takes off, even faster,
double time in a flurry, with energy and drive which electrifies
the listener to the end!
