- Mezzamorphis (Delirious?)
The words are the same, those heartfelt and honest cries
of Martin Smith that have captivated hundreds of fans,
but this time the music has been upped another notch on
the rock factor. Although Delirious?' new musical exuberance
has now been taken out to the mainstream, Mezzamorphis
still remains at heart a worship album.
Raging electric guitars and in-your-face lyrics start
the CD off heavy. The chorus of Heaven is vulnerable in
its power, a plea for belonging: 'Heaven is my home and
there'll be no shame to bear / Heaven is my home and there'll
be no refugees'. The chorus of Bliss is a declaration
of faithfulness: 'I'm not backing down'. The pop groove
of Follow is a perfect backdrop for the simple, covenental
chorus ('I will follow') and the electrifying barrage
of screaming guitars that come halfway through the song.
Beautiful Sun, It's OK, Love Falls Down, and Kiss Your
Feet all have shades of classical Delirious? worship material,
as does Jesus' Blood (US Release only). The two US releases
also have a new mix of Deeper, which isn't especially
impressive since the original was fairly rocked-up already.
The UK release also has better cover art, and the US Virgin
release leaves off Kiss Your Feet and Jesus' Blood.
If you're a Delirious? fan, this album may take a few
listens to get used to. If you're not already a fan, there's
no better time to start discovering one of the most popular
Christian bands out there.
