Review of SEASONS CHANGE.....

ChristianMusic.com asked Connie, How would you describe your music?

Connie explains to ChristianMusic.com, "It is certainly worship music, which is my ultimate goal. I want people to enter into the very throne room of God when they hear my music. I know that I have varying styles throughout my CD. That is due to my education. I would also say that it is music that has a thread of hope throughout it."

WOW! Connie Scott's SEASONS CHANGE CD is certainly a delightful way to gain spiritual peace, encouragement and energy to be strong, growing closer to the Lord through music; especially when one's spirit is deflated, the soul is in pain and the mind is discouraged and roughed up by the troubles of this world. This collection of songs offer threads of hope, spirit-lifting, soothing balm to the soul in distress, in pain with the result of lifting one's being into a spirit of worship, coming before the Lord in music, as one is reminded of the Lord's good promises to us as His children.

For, the music found in this collection of songs has all the elements which make these collection of songs perfect for either personal worship time and reflection or for the worship and praise of larger groups, in connecting to God in a personal way. Her contemporary anthems, piano and acoustic ballads offer songs of encouragement and inspiration which have the effect of readjusting negative attitudes, giving a discouraged spirit a boost and leave the listener uplifted and vitalized, emboldened to continue trusting and depending on the Lord, seeking His face for strength, empowerment and endurance.

Songs with catchy, infectious to memorable melodies, straightforward tempos, solid musical accompaniment; simple yet effective in a clean acoustic or piano-based style, are paired with easy to remember yet meaningful, encouraging lyrics, all brought to life with the sweet, strong, yet soothing poignant vocals of Connie Scott in this inspiring effort. Connie is an ordained pastor, an encourager and leader in faith who not only preaches and teaches, but also uses her considerable musical gifts and lyrical writing ability to express what is on her heart in her effort to minister through music as well. She sings what she has personally experienced in her own life, her own faith walk, and it truly shines through, both in her vocal presentations of her lyrics and her compositions, giving a spiritual boost of encouragement for the listener, whether sailing through life or in a dour mood!

The title song, SEASONS CHANGE is a glorious example of a stirring anthem of encouragement on this wonderful album.

Song Notes: Favorite song of this reviewer on this CD.

Musically, it has a wonderful melody, a clean acoustic, folk sound with an easy, upbeat tempo, made interesting with the additions of light bongos and a soaring, poignant violin in the interlude, which offers more subtle support throughout the song.

The Lyrics: The lyrics state so well what the Lord promises about the ups and downs of our lives, inspired by (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). Favorite lyrical verse: "Are you in a spiritual battle / Is sin crouching at your door / Have you tried to push it away / And yet it keeps coming back for more / Don't give up my sister; put your trust in the Lord / For the Word has a promise, seasons change."

Vocals are soothing, dynamic and poignant, creating the perfect aura and presentation of this comforting song. While the Lord doesn't promise us a life without troubles in this world, He does promise that no season lasts forever, and He does promise to be with us through all the seasons of our lives; We can trust Him to do so.

Other songs explore the character of the Lord and the concept of seeking the Lord, depending on Him, and trusting Him to follow through on His promise found in Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him." (N.I.V. Translation)

Second favorite: WORK OF YOUR HANDS - A great anthem for those of us who have the tendency to worry! It would be well received in any denominational or non-denominational service.

Song Notes: A piano -based worship anthem with a wonderful melody, carried by the assuring vocals and supported by string sythns, through the first verse. In the second verse, one hears the string sythns, superbly mixed with a nice counter melody offered by a live violin, which dynamically swells into the chorus. Piano doesn't make an appearance until the chorus.

Vocals are lovely, supported throughout by lovely harmonies starting in the chorus. Connie's vocal range includes the alto range as well as the higher register.

The Lyrics remind the listener that we can trust and depend on the Lord: Chorus: "We are the children of the living God / Grafted in the vine of Christ / Ransomed by the Blood of the Holy One / And we are the work of Your hand / We are the work of Your hand." //

2nd verse: "Consider the wonder of this glorious life (of this glorious life) / Consider the hope in our Risen Christ / We shouldn't worry about what may come / For we are the work of Your hand / Yes, we are the work of Your hand." //

Words of Comfort: ROMANS 5 - Wendy Jepsen reads this with expression, over a lovely piano and violin accompaniment, which is the perfect introduction to the following song, HOPE, as it explains why we have such Hope to hang onto in our troubles.

Romans 5 Reading: "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith / We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ / Through whom we have gained access by faith // Into this grace in which we now stand. / And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. / Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings / Because we know that suffering produces perseverance; / Perseverance, character; / And character, hope. (Music fades out.) / And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, Who was given to us."//

HOPE - Another strong favorite of this reviewer. The music, meaningful lyrics and inspiring vocals together express in this love letter to the Lord, the hope, joy and inner peace one can have in the Lord even during unpleasant circumstances; Especially in the chorus, which is a statement which we all can hang onto during the bumps of life. I adore the chorus!!!!!!!!

Song Notes: Begins in a minor key, in a solemn mood, reflecting the spirit of the lyrical message, and segues into a joyous expression of gratitude to the Lord in the chorus. Keyboard -based with lovely violin counter-melody in the chorus and second verse, with subtle additions of bongos, shaker and bass.

Vocals: Connie's stellar breath control and personal convictions are well represented in the fine lead vocals, especially in the chorus. The listener will be singing along with Connie Scott on this one! Strong harmonies in the chorus, add a beauty to the overall sound.

The Lyrics: "Broken and poured out / Beaten and bruised / Tired and weary from life's journey / Yet my heart still longs for you." //*** Chorus: "You are my hope / You are my peace / You are my strength in time of need / You bring beauty from ashes / And joy to my bittersweet / You are hope to me." //

Other songs are prayers of petition to the Lord for help in difficult situations and every day life.

QUESTIONS - Another strong favorite of this reviewer. Captures the restlessness, frustration and burden felt by trials and problems of this world in this prayer of petition to the Lord for some HELP, wanting to cast these cares on the Lord, but not knowing how, until taking time to be with the Lord.

Song Notes: Driving rhythm guitar ensemble offers a propelling tempo and firm support for the dotted note, main melody carried so well and so effective by the vocals. Bongos and soft bass are in the background, but there is no need for drums!

Vocals are expressive and dynamic, being plaintive during the verses and chorus, yet full of relief and peace during the Bridge, which gives the antidote to the problems presented.

The Lyrics: "Got some questions, got some problems, Don't have the answers, Can't seem to solve them / Are You out there? / Kind of nervous and kind of scared, / This heavy load is too much to bear./ I need a hand Lord, Where are You?" // Bridge: "Then I retreat to a place of solitude, to worship and seek Your face / That's when I begin to hear from You / And You lift me to a higher place" // Chorus: "Oh, God I'm crying out / A warrior child in doubt / Running this race on my own, way off course, feeling alone / Can You help me?" //

I NEED YOU - A stirring piano driven prayer of petition, reconnecting with the Lord as a source of strength and love.

Song Notes: Spirited piano keeps the pace moving in an easy beat tempo and supports the memorable melody of this song of petition , expressing feelings we all feel at one time or another, due to our human condition Subtle bass support, light string synths and light drum beat. Love the interlude guitar solo done by a light, delicate touch on an electric guitar, featuring an interesting plucking of two strings, offering a duet sound which modulates up the scale. Beautiful!

Vocals are sweet and full, expressing the heart of the song very well.

The Lyrics: "Where are You? / I haven't felt Your touch in a while / Where are You? / I haven't heard Your voice / And I've gone miles on this journey / Where are You? I'm walking this dusty road all alone / Where are You? / I can't see Your light leading me on to home." // Chorus: "I need You Yes, I need You / I need You/ Like the air that I breathe / I need You / Yes, I need You / I need You / Like my own heartbeat / Cradled in your mercy, /As You sing your song of love over me / I need You / Yes, I need You here with me." //

Other memorable piano and clean acoustic ballads and anthems elevate one to another frame of mind, in praise and worship.

SATURATE - Another strong favorite of this reviewer! One of those prayer anthems which lifts one's being into another frame of mind, into the spirit of worship and petition.

Song Notes: Lovely, elevating worship anthem, which is piano driven with some fine acoustic guitar support. .Melodic intro features a piano and very light synths, beginning in a major key, segueing into a minor key in parts of the chorus. Melody is captivating, lead vocals pure and heart-felt and lovely 3 part harmony in the refrain, complete with the sound of rain is icing on the cake!

The Lyrics: Chorus:" Send Your rain Lord, flood my soul / Take control / Living waters, flowing free / Saturate me." // Verse 1: "On this dry and desert ground/ Like the tide that comes around / Living waters flow to me/Rushing waves of mercy." // Bridge: "Let it rain, let it rain Let it rain, let it rain Let it rain, let it rain / Send Your rain / Send Your rain / Send Your rain." //

PRAISE IS AWAITING - A simple yet effective call to worship and offer praise to the Lord.

Song Notes: Another lovely piano driven composition which is written in a minor key in the refrain, while the verse is in a major key. Lovely vocal duet in the refrain, and strong, expressive lead vocals bringing the verse to life.

The Lyrics: Refrain: "Praise is awaiting / Praise is awaiting You, oh God / Praise is awaiting / Praise is awaiting You, oh God, in Zion." // Verse 1: "Blessed is the man You choose / To come and approach You / That he may dwell in Your courts / And with goodness be satisfied." //

These songs of praise and thankfulness are a sure cure for the upsetting woes of the day, reminding us to give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thess. 5:17) for blessings given and rejoice in the promises the Lord has made to us because of who He is.

GOD IS GOOD - Sure cure for self-pity or a dour mood; Remembering what a constant, loving, faithful Lord we belong to as His children.

Song Notes: A song of praise and adoration which gets off to a roaring start, propelled by a quick, snappy 2 beat meter and a sizzling, moving electric bass, with elements borrowed from blues / pop / Gospel, in the composition, lyrical patterns, melody and the expressive vocals, with the exclamation point found in the chorus.

The Lyrics: * Chorus: "You are merciful and mighty, King of kings and Lord of lords / The Holy One, the First and Last, Son of God's love / You are Master and Redeemer, Prince of Peace, Bright Morning Star, / The Word made Flesh, Soon coming King / I Am is who You are / And Jesus, You are good, so good." //

UNQUENCHABLE- Praise and worship song sure to be popular in just about any service, as well as a great song to listen to while getting in the state of being to worship God! A definite, strong favorite of this reviewer.

Song Notes: Moving piano love ballad composition to the Lord, with an irresistible melody, and a perfectly glorious chorus which will draw the listener into a mood to sing along in praise and worship. Light use of a shaker adds to the rhythm effect.

Vocals as usual are sweet, full of love of the Lord. Harmony in the chorus is effective and spirit lifting.

The Lyrics: Verse 1: "There's no place I'd rather be / Than in Your presence God / You are my unquenchable desire / Simply to know You more / Is all I'm longing for / Purified in Your refining fire." //

* * Chorus: "Hallelujah, King of glory / Hallelujah, Son of God / Hallelujah, Jehovah Redeemer / Hallelujah, Almighty One." //

I WILL SEEK YOUR FACE - Another inspiring praise and worship song, with an easy refrain for group worship, or for a quiet time experience.

Song Notes: Another lovely, flowing 3/4 meter praise and worship, piano driven song with an infectious melody, and a joyful spirit of gratitude and praise, which is invigorating and motivating.

Vocals and harmonies add a heavenly quality to the sound, which brings the listener into the place of worship and thanksgiving.

The Lyrics: "I will seek Your face / I will rise up early in the morning / And sing You songs of praise / For You are the King of Glory / Beyond the veil to Your holy throne / I worship You in Your splendor / I will seek Your face." //

Refrain: "Holy / Holy / Holy, my Lord / Holy / Holy /Holy, my Lord." //

The Perfect ending to this CD, is this stirring, inspiring benediction and an inspirational and motivational short essay; an exhortation by Teri Gladstone Furr of Serenade Ministries (www.serenadeministries.com), entitled: CAUGHT BETWEEN TWO SEASONS, based on the themes found in Romans 12:2, which ties it all up in a wonderful uplifting ending message.

BENEDICTION PRAYER - Would be embraced in any church service; formal or informal, denominational or non-denominational Another strong favorite of this reviewer.

Song Notes: Easy tempo, piano driven benediction and blessing prayer which features a glorious melody in both the verse and refrain, and lovely harmonies, which offer the perfect presentation for this benediction prayer, written and said by the Apostle Paul so long ago to the Corinthians.

Lyrics: "Finally, my dear brothers / Be complete / Be of good comfort, live in peace / Be of one mind / Walk in unity / Finally, my dear brothers farewell." // Refrain: "May the grace of Jesus /And the love of the Father / Communion with the Spirit / Be with you all / Amen / Amen / Amen / Amen/ Amen."//

I highly recommend this CD, SEASONS CHANGE for anyone's Christian music collection. It is a MUST for listeners who enjoy the clean acoustic / memorable piano ballad / contemporary music genre, ranging from reflective to upbeat style and sound, paired with poignant vocals expressing lyrics with spiritual messages which truly do help the listener to focus on what is important: The characteristics of our Lord, His promises to us and worshiping, praising and depending on our Lord. He will see us through anything as a comfort and a source of strength, blessing us in the process. Most of all, this collection of songs will help the listener to let go of the cares of this world and come before the presence of God through music, a truly peaceful and joyful experience.

Rev. Connie Scott's book, I WILL SEEK YOUR FACE: 31 Days of Worship & Praise, offers 31 daily readings and prayers which helps the reader seek the Lord's face in one's daily quiet time with the Lord, which I highly recommend as well for either a personal study or for a Sunday school class. Rev. Connie has a terrific gift in writing down her thoughts in a very readable, effective format, which is very encouraging, showing another side of her ministry; teaching and preaching! Though I wish I could take one of her classes, this book and her CD, SEASONS CHANGE, are the next best thing; Two important tools for the believer and seeker to use to truly seek the Lord's face.

In the next section, I have listed excerpts from her book, along with some scriptures which can be paired with the lyrics of the songs. These are just samples of what could be done using the study book and CD together.

* * * * + + HOPE - Words & Music by Connie Scott

*Dedicated to my Grandma Grace

I WILL SEEK YOUR FACE: 31 Days of Worship & Praise excerpt; page 41, Acts 16:24-26: "When the pressures of life came at Paul and Silas, what was in their hearts came out; worship. As we seek to know the Father more everyday, then when we do feel as though the Son is farthest from us, we won't have a "pity party", but we will praise Jesus, knowing that He is with us in all situations. Just as the prisoners were listening to Paul and Silas, people are watching our lives very closely. Our most powerful witness is not the words that we speak, but the lives that we live in good times and more importantly in the "low" times. If you continue to read Acts 16, you'll find that people came to the Lord that night. It wasn't because Paul preached a great sermon, and it wasn't because Silas wowed them with a beautiful song. Lives were changed, because at midnight the Holy Spirit inhabited the praises of worshiping hearts!"
