- In a Different Light (Avalon)
Avalon's
third release carries on a tradition of solid pop tunes
with excellent vocals and catchy melodies. Although
vocalist Nikki Hassman left the group to be replaced
by Cherie Paliotta, there is little noticeable difference
in the group. This is due to the fact that again, Avalon's
members wrote very few of the songs on this album.
With
an excellent mix of both fast and slower songs, Avalon
finds a good balance of material for this release, with
the slower songs better written than on the previous
albums. Highlights on the album include 'Take You At
Your Word', 'Always Have, Always Will', and 'Only For
The Weak'.
It
seems a safe bet that as long as the guiding forces
behind Avalon (this time Brow Bannister produces with
Grant Cunningham staying on from the previous album)
keep helping Avalon to develop their signature vocal
style, and as long as Avalon finds good songs to sing,
future albums will continue to draw listeners.
